7 Days

A good friend is someone who you can count on to keep the panic happening even a week after you have watched a great horror movie.

There are two instances in which I can remember my cousin prolonging the fear after watching the same movie. The second time I hadn't even watched it with her. Actually in hindsight I'm not entirely sure it was her who actually fabricated the goings on in my mind. You can't really blame her for my insanity and paranoia.

Anyway it had been exactly 7 days after I had watched The Ring. Those of you who are familiar with this film will know that in this particular movie, somebody watches a video tape, and after viewing it, the phone will ring, somebody on the other end will tell you that you are going to die in 7 days and then hang up.

Now you are staring at the TV with a look of horror on your face wondering if this could possibly could be true.

Then the TV goes all fuzzy, this confirms your insecure fears, but you are still not entirely certain and nobody wants to die.

One of the strongest human instincts is to keep from dying for as long as possible because death sounds scary and no one knows what happens after you die and stuff.

So you stand there staring at the scary fuzzy TV in hope that you won't die in 7 Days.

Anyway the way things play out scary things keep happening and there is a scary girl, and she wants to kill you, then at the end of the week the TV goes fuzzy again confirming your impending doom and then the phone rings, securing your fate further, and then... you die.

Well... You die with a really scary look on your face which looks something like this.

Anyway getting back to the point. Well, my cousin and I were at my Nanna and Poppy's house, Nanna and Poppy were out and I had watched The Ring a week ago, so 7 days. I know it was the exact time, 7.00 pm because Home and Away was on and I used to love that show, and I was missing it to watch a horror movie with my friend Kate.

It was dark outside and cold because it was sometime in winter. And the TV went fuzzy in the middle of Home and Away.

My face went all horrified like the girl that dies in The Ring and I turned to face my cousin,
and she was all "What's wrong?"

and I was all "I watched The Ring a week ago, and I know that it's the exact time, 7pm because Home and Away is on and I love that show."

My cousin knew exactly what that meant and she looked pretty scared too.

The Phone started to ring.

This was a life or death situation, and it all depended on who was on the other line. I could see my life flashing before my eyes and I started to wonder if my cat would miss me, and if I had wasted my life watching Home and Away every single night at 7. I wondered which of my friends would show up to my funeral when the girl came to claim my soul, and I started to get just a little bit panicky. Okay I won't lie, my palms were sweaty and I was shaking a little.... Only a little bit, I'm not a chicken.

I decided not to answer it, if I was going to die, I didn't want to know. I waited for the phone to ring out.

So I was highly on edge when Cousin asked me what was for dinner and I traipsed down to the other end of the large country house, which was on a farm, to get to the freezer, in the dark.

Okay so take note, at this point in time, I had long, dark hair, and was wearing a white nighty, and the storm was raging outside. I tiptoed into the room where the freezer was, and as I reached for the lightswitch a flash of lightning, (in hindsight I know this but didn't at the time) showed me my reflection in the big window, I screamed so loud it could be heard from the next acerage, and I ran as fast as I could back to the other end of the house, and flung open the glass door.

I had a plan, and it probably sounded like rambling nonsense to my cousin at the time, but if the girl came for us, we were going to run as fast as we could out on to the acreage in hopes of losing her in the night.

At this point, the phone rang again.

This time, figuring I had nothing to lose, I picked it up and started screaming into the receiver, "WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM MEEEEEE!!!!!!?

It was Poppy, he asked me if I had taped his show. I told him the TV reception was out.

I mumbled something about "Sorry, girl was coming.... thought you were.... kill me...."

He was all, "huh?"

I was all, "Nothing."

At which point my cousin was rolling around on the floor laughing at me. And forever I am convinced she had something to do with this night of horror.

Just wait till we watch insidious Cuz. Just you wait.
